Eminent domain

The law of eminent domain grants the government the power to appropriate land for public use.  Typically, if the government is interested in your property or part of your property, they must offer to purchase it from you at fair market value.  If you refuse to sell, the government can file a court action against you to exercise their right of eminent domain.

We handle a large number of eminent domain cases.  Recently, Dominion Power's plans to run a major power line through our area have resulted in numerous eminent domain cases.  Our firm is representing approximately half of the affected property owners in their fight to protect their land against the government.
